On May 19, 2022 in Sarajevo, employees of the Insurance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the event − Raising Awareness of the Smart Specialization Process in Bosnia and Herzegovina organized by the Directorate for Economic Planning of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Director of DEI, Mr. Zoran Zeljko and the Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ms. Ankica Gudeljević, opened the event and welcomed the participants. As part of the agenda, the Head of Unit B3 − Urban and Territorial Development of the Directorate General of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, Mr. Alessandro Rainoldi, gave a lecture on "Support of the Joint Research Center to design strategies in smart specialization (S3) for the EU enlargement region". Ms. Elisa Gerussi, Economic Analyst at the Urban and Territorial Development Unit of the Directorate General of the European Commission's Joint Research Center, further presented: "S3 Framework for the EU Enlargement and Neighborhood Region: Objectives, Challenges and Selection Area. The expert from the Joint Research Center, Mr. Domen Bole, gave a presentation on "Key challenges and success factors in the implementation of the S3 framework in the region", and a presentation on "Step by step in the implementation of the framework in the process of smart specialization − S3" . Finally, Elisa Gerussi presented the next steps in the S3 framework: the mapping phase.
Over the past decade, smart specialization has become one of the key strategic approaches to research and innovation, as well as an effective policy instrument for greater competitiveness and increased opportunities. The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed its commitment to start the process of smart specialization in Bosnia and Herzegovina by adopting the Decision on appointing members of the working group for drafting the Smart Specialization Strategy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (end of 2020).
